We often get asked about porcelain veneers to improve teeth and create a perfect smile. Lifestyle and personal factors often result in issues with teeth including gaps, misaligned teeth, spots and stains. In some cases, veneers that cover the front teeth can be the best option to significantly improve the appearance of your teeth and smile.
In this article we answer the six most common questions we are asked about porcelain veneers. We would love to see you and show you how amazing the results of this procedure can be if it is the right process for you.
What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin, tooth-coloured porcelain (ceramic) shells carefully crafted and bonded to cover the front of the tooth. Veneers are often used as an alternative to a crown and can be a good option if the underlying tooth is strong and healthy.
When are Veneers best used?
We have found that veneers are excellent for treating chipped, discoloured, misshapen, small or slightly misaligned teeth – especially when the issues are with the visible, front teeth. In some instances, a veneer is a better option than a crown because we may not need to cut away as much of the original tooth.
How long is the process?
Usually your veneers can be prepared and fitted in two visits to Smile Forever Dental. We will discuss the best plan with you and the appointment times will depend on the number of teeth we are treating.
What is the process?
We remove a very thin layer of your tooth enamel to prepare and allow room for the veneer to be glued in place. We can provide a local anaesthetic for this process or even twilight sedation here at the surgery (sleep dentistry) if your fears are overwhelming.
We take an impression of your teeth and our dental ceramist, who is a true artisan, designs and manufactures the veneers to match the perfect colour and fit.
The veneers are cemented into place with a special, non-toxic fixer and checked for colour and fit before the final bonding process. We then clean your teeth with a final bonding coat and use a light beam that activates the cement to ensure the veneer is firmly in place. After the veneer is bonded, it looks just like a perfect tooth.
How about colour choice?
One of the key things that we see clients deliberate on is the choice of the colour shade of the veneer because the colour cannot be changed.
Can I see the Outcomes before the Process with a Wax-Up?
Yes, we have an in-chair “modelling” process, called a “Wax-Up” that can demonstrate how effective the results of your treatment will be, before the process. A diagnostic Wax-Up is essentially a cast or impression that offers a simulation of the procedure outcomes. It’s essentially a model of what your dental work will achieve.
We create this “demo” in the surgery and take a photo of the expected outcomes so you can review and show those at home what the expected results will look like. You will be amazed at how great the outcomes can be when you can see what your procedure will look like BEFORE you go ahead with your veneers.
