The key to maintaining healthy teeth and gums lies in the way we use our tooth brush. The correct brushing technique is best achieved with an electric toothbrush. An electric toothbrush has the ability to provide a perfect balance between efficient cleaning and brushing pressure. With adequate pressure applied, plaque is removed and excess pressure is avoided which can damage the teeth and gums. Research has shown that on average, people remove only 27% of dental plaque from the teeth with 1 minute of brushing with a manual toothbrush. In 2 minutes, only 42% of dental plaque has been removed. However, if using a thorough brushing technique as described above, you can achieve extremely effective brushing with a manual toothbrush.
An electric toothbrush with a built-in pressure sensor is therefore recommended, as is a timer to ensure you are brushing for at least 2 minutes. One fun way to make sure you spend time brushing your teeth is to fire up your streaming service, and play your favourite pop song; kids especially benefit from this method.
For optimal results, we would recommend using an Oral B electric toothbrush with a soft ‘sensitive clean’ brush head. To find out more about the sensitive clean brush head click HERE
